Rocío García (1954)
Platoon, 2003
From the series The Tamer and other Stories
Oil on canvas
In The Tamer and Other Stories, Rocío is at the height of excellency in a pictorial representation and she continues to expand on her themes, but now in the context of the military world; a constellation of emplacements that favor reversals and submissive, and furtive struggles. In this psychologically complex work, again she establishes the parallel between how a person withstands pain and domination and how the citizens of a country endure dogged social or political oppression. The masked creature, the “sadist”, wields not only sexual power but also political and social control.
