UNA MUESTRA Y TRES ARTISTAS EN TRES CUERDAS DIFERENTES

Life During Wartime: Art in the Age of the Coronavirus es la primera gran exhibición online organizada por el USF Contemporary Art Museum de Tampa, inaugurada el 6 de junio y que se extenderá hasta el 12 de diciembre.

El curador de la muestra es Christian Viveros-Fauné (Santiago, 1965), autor de Social Forms: A
Short History of Political Art, publicado por David Zwirner Books en 2018. Life During Wartime: Art in the Age of the Coronavirus se presenta bajo el sguiente statement:

It humbly engages a select company of international artists to respond to the overwhelming realities of the crisis that has gripped the planet since March 5, the date the World Health
Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. The exhibition takes full advantage of one of the few outlets artists still have—the Internet—during a public health emergency recently exacerbated by the wanton murder of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis. It aims to mobilize sentiment, thought, and activity around art and its enduring possibilities: its role as a conceptual catalyst, its ability to trigger ideas, stories, conversations, emotions, feelings, and mental states. Separately and together, each artist contribution provides a picture of a
planet in crisis, now further enraged and victimized by violence, but also images of hope and optimism in the face of a global emergency.

Entre los invitados a la exhibición se encuentran los cubanos Glenda León, Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara y Dagoberto Rodríguez. Tres trazados, tres nuevas geografías.

El conocido video de Glenda León Dirigir las nubes, una pieza clave que resume parte de su discurso: contemplativo, poético y en alineación con la naturaleza, es una de las obras en exhibición:

Previamente el Museo había aquirido dos piezas de Glenda: The Hidden Story of the Broken Sidewalk y Light and Shadow.

Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara por su parte, fue invitado a exponer su serie de bibujos Puertas, una obra que remite al re-ordenamiento territorial propuesto por Guy Debord en La ciudad desnuda. Según el propio Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara son “un despertar de conciencias, cambio de paradigmas establecidos. Un nuevo camino trazado por el ser, estar y actuar”.

Geometría popular es tl título del reciente video (2020) realizado por Dagoberto Rodríguez, un producto audiovisual que en 4 minutos parece condensar la pintura sobre las multitudes y el des-orden de la masa de Alejandro Gómez Cangas o toda la serie Puramente formal , de Fernandito Rodríguez.

Por muy variadas que sean las naturalezas de las inquietudes de estos tres artistas aquí los une un factor: la sensibilidad cuarentena, ya sea en cuerda catarsis o en la de la esperanza.
